    Background: Senior Environmental Studies & Biology major at Reed College; from Austin, TX.

    Climate Expertise: Research spans ecology, aquatic systems, and wildfire smoke; currently conducting a senior thesis on Spotted Towhees.

    Teaching & Community Experience: Grew up in a sustainable stewardship community in Taos; experienced in connecting ecology, culture, and community resilience.

    Passion for Education: Dedicated to helping youth understand climate through both scientific and human-centered lenses.

    What Inspires Her: A lifelong connection to the outdoors and community-building motivates her climate work.

  • Kevin Matisheck

    Background: Junior Environmental Studies major at Lewis & Clark College; from Golden, CO.

    Climate Expertise: Focus on urban design, climate change, and the green energy transition.

    Teaching Experience: Taught English and environmental issues at a local high school during a semester in Siena, Italy.

    Passion for Education: Believes climate literacy empowers young people to shape resilient communities.

    What Inspires Him: Time spent rowing, fishing, and being outdoors fuels his commitment to climate solutions.

  • Kimani Johnson

    Background: Environmental Studies major at Lewis & Clark College; originally from District Heights, MD; POSSE Scholar.

    Climate Expertise: Experience spans grassroots environmental advocacy, climate equity research, community-level sustainability initiatives, and policy engagement; has helped raise over $10,000 for environmental campaigns including plastic pollution, pollinator protection, and right-to-repair.

    Teaching & Community Experience: Extensive youth leadership experience through church programs, dance instruction, and literary mentorship; skilled in facilitating conversations, supporting young learners, and building inclusive community spaces.

    Passion for Education: Committed to making climate issues accessible by translating complex topics into clear, actionable knowledge—especially for young people and underserved communities.

    What Inspires Her: A belief in the power of community action, youth voice, and environmental justice drives his work and motivates his path as a climate leader.

  • Twyla Metcalf

    Background: Environmental Studies major at Lewis & Clark College with a planned minor in Art History; originally from Southern California and a 2024 graduate of The Waverly High School.

    Climate Expertise: Deep experience in community composting, organic waste systems, and youth-led sustainability through her leadership of Compost Culture, a 501(c)(3) she helped run for three years. Additional hands-on expertise in soil health, compost microbiology, and waste diversion from her internship with 301 Organics.

    Teaching & Community Experience: Extensive background working with young learners as a teaching assistant across multiple arts and enrichment programs, including Creative World Art School, Art/Work/Place, and the South Pasadena Educational Foundation. Skilled at supporting student creativity, designing hands-on art installations, and maintaining welcoming learning environments.

    Passion for Education: Driven to help young people connect climate learning with creative, tactile, real-world solutions—whether through art, composting, or community engagement. Believes climate understanding deepens when students can build, make, observe, and experiment.

    What Inspires Her: A lifelong commitment to sustainability, her Girl Scouts Gold Award project on school composting, and the creativity of youth motivate her to keep pushing for community-driven, imaginative climate solutions.
